April Ross

April Ross was one of only a few women beach volleyball athletes who earned medals at several Olympics. Ross will compete in Tokyo to compete for her third Olympic medal with Alix Klineman, who is a first-time Olympian. Ross aims to earn an Olympic first gold medal but she is also aiming to win greater. And at the age of 39, this could be her final chance to accomplish this. Her optimism is that she can achieve top honors. Ross was mentioned in NBC Boston as saying that If you put in your top, even if you play well we will get the gold. Also, it's the result of luck. Ross born in 1982 and lived within Costa Mesa California with her sister and parents, began participating in the sports of Newport Harbor High School. Ross was a competitive athlete in a variety of activities while at Newport Harbor High School. Along with indoor volleyball, she was a basketball player and also ran track in her pre-college days. She stood out however in this sport. Through her high school years, she played middle blocker outside setter and hitter at the tennis court per her college bio. Her efforts were recognized when she was named 1999 Gatorade's Circle Of Champions National Player of the Year. In addition, she was awarded the award in 2000. Orange County Athlete of the Award for volleyball. Ross and Klineman began the partnership in 2017, but Ross had been a beach-scene star for years before. It's true that she has been able to win multiple tournaments, including one with an iconic volleyball player. Jennifer Kessy coached her from 2007 through 2013. Kessy and Ross were strong on the international arena, taking home the world championship in 2009 as a team. They took home a Silver medal during the 2012 Olympic Games held in London. The legendary Misty Maytreanor team along with Kerri Jennings won the gold. Ross Jennings took over for May-Treanor after she had retired. In 2016, the duo were awarded bronze medals at the Rio Olympics for beach volleyball. Ross was a player for the USC Trojans in the college years following her graduation from high school. Her career was a success during her time in college. As a freshman in 2000 she played her way to Pac-10 and NCAA The Freshman of the Year accolades. She also was an All-American. The Trojans could also reach the Final Four with her help. After her sophomore year she suffered a devastating personal loss, yet managed to earn the honor of being named an All-American. Over the course of her final two seasons she led the Trojans to the top of the mountain and took home consecutive national championships. As an individual she established herself as a legend when she won the Honda Sports Award for 2003-04. The award is given to the most outstanding female college volleyball players in the nation. Ross studied International Relations at USC. Margie Ross wasn't able to witness her daughter's rise to beach volleyball fame. In 2001 when Ross was in her sophomore year in USC her mother died of breast cancer. She has kept her parent close to his heart. Margie remains a source of inspiration, both off and on of the shore.
